Traditional farm in Castelrotto/Kastelruth
Stay on a cozy farm in South Tyrol
The traditional Buschenschank venues in South Tyrol are invariably connected to the history of wine cultivation in the region. During a visit to a Buschenschank (traditional wine tavern) in South Tyrol, you will always gain fascinating insight into the local wine culture.
At Lafogl in Castelrotto/Kastelruth you will be able to enjoy a particularly fine wine, Müller Thurgau, which is made from the farm's own grapes, as well as a variety of superb South Tyrolean wines.
The farm products such as juices, fruit and vegetables are used as the main ingredient for the traditional dishes that are served in the restaurant.
Typical specialties of a Buschenschank tavern are a variety of dumplings such as herb dumplings, spinach dumplings, speck dumplings, cheese dumplings, plum and apricot dumplings as well as Schlutzkrapfen, venison goulash, traditional sausages, apple strudel, buckwheat cakes etc.
The farmer woman Regina herself prepares the culinary delights with a lot of love and purely by hand. She actually studied to be a teacher, but soon became interested in the old recipes of her grandmother Lena.
The meat that is used to prepare all venison dishes, sausages and roe deer dishes is brought home by Karl, a dedicated hunter.
Lafogl farm is a great place for events such as family parties, baptisms, weddings or birthdays, from spring to fall.
During traditional Törggelen evenings the traditional specialties that are served with the young wine are barley soup, pork, home-made sausages, potatoes and sauerkraut from Val Pusteria/Pustertal. The meals are rounded off by the delicious, traditional farmer's dumplings from Castelrotto/Kastelruth with a plum and pear filling, or by equally sublime Kiachln (apple tarts). Finally, enjoy some roasted chestnuts. Another specialty at Lafogl are the so-called "Erdäpfelplattlen", a unique South Tyrolean potato dish which is served with warm sauerkraut (please order in advance).
